Balancing and Reopening Doubles
A double can be used in the balancing position as a tool to further compete in the bidding. This is true on our first call or on our second call, and can be done by the Opener or even the Responder. When we are short in the opponent's suit and have decent values, we often strive to double back into the auction and see if good things happen.
